Day 93 (4/3/11) - Circus

This afternoon we took the boys to 1st Mariner Arena to see the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus.  I'm not sure which was more impressive, the gravity-defying stunts or how quickly the boys ate an entire box of popcorn!

They were spellbound by the performances, particularly those involving animals.  I was amazed at the tricks the elephants and tigers were able to do.  If they can train wild animals to perform circus tricks, how come we can't get Guinness to follow basic commands?!  I found the flying trapeze, high wire, motocross, and acrobatic routines the most dramatic and striking.  And, I admit, I was horrified by (i.e., scared of) the woman who hangs by her hair and the midget!

It was cute to see the boys watching everything unfold, eyes wide and mouths agape in wonder and awe.  I guess that's why they call it the "Greatest Show on Earth!"

Here are a couple of brief video clips of the stunts we found most stunning and spectacular.

Being at the circus brought back fond memories of the time we took Ryan.  In fact, two years ago, almost to the day, we took Ryan to see his first circus.  As you can see, I was humongously pregnant with Gavin at the time.  We were trying to spend as much quality time with Ryan as we could before his new brother or sister arrived, and what better place to build memories than the circus!

  1. Ryan and Gavin are stars under their own "Big Top" in Westminster.
