Day ??? (9/6/11) - Ryan's First Day of Pre-K

Today was Ryan's first day of Pre-K (he insists I call it "Pre-K" rather than "preschool").  He picked out his own outfit, choosing a shirt with a puppy embroidered on the hem because he loves puppies and hoped it would cheer him up if he got lonely or sad.  It also reminded him of Blue Puppy, his favorite stuffed animal, who was waiting for him back home.

Ryan was excited that it was raining because that meant he got to wear his new raincoat.  What a refreshing perspective to focus on the rainbow rather than the rain!  His optimism humbles and inspires me.

Although I managed to get through the morning without any tears, I was painfully aware that he'll now be in school five mornings a week.  Thankfully, I'll still have the afternoons to spend with him.  For now, I'm not going to think about the fact that full-day kindergarten is less than a year away.  Instead, I'm going to focus on making the best out of the time we have together this year.

While Gavin enjoyed the special time he got to spend with Mommy and Daddy this morning, he was excited to pick Ryan up from preschool.  As soon as Ryan got in the car, Gavin exclaimed, "Hi, Ry!"  As we pulled out of the parking lot and looked in the backseat to be sure both boys were buckled into their car seats, we found them holding hands!  They just melt my heart!
