Day 162 (6/11/11) - A Day to Remember

We tried to fit as much as possible into our last full day in Hatteras.  We went to the beach, swam in the pool, climbed the Currituck Beach Lighthouse, went out to dinner, played miniature golf, took a twilight stroll on the beach, cleaned the beach house, and packed our suitcases.

Given my fear of heights, I decided to stay behind with Gavin and Mom Mom while everyone else climbed to the top of the lighthouse.  However, before they began their ascent, I informed Mike that he was to keep one hand on Ryan at all times and not let him anywhere near the railing at the top.  I get wobbly in the knees just thinking about my little boy climbing to such heights!  Clearly, he does not share my fear.  Seeing his proud, ear-to-ear grin, almost makes me want to conquer my fear so I can share these experiences with him, too.

Taking advantage of the breathtaking view, Matty proposed to Lauren.  She happily accepted!  Luckily, Mike and Ryan rounded the corner shortly after the proposal and were able to take the first picture of the newly engaged couple!

We celebrated their engagement with a barbecue dinner at Sooeys, followed by a round of miniature golf.

Mike and I took the boys for a final walk on the beach.  I wish we had discovered how amazing the beach is at dusk earlier in the week.  It was an unforgettable evening watching the boys chase each other in the sand, jump over jelly fish, point out ghost crabs scurrying about, watch the sky change colors as the sun began to set, and climb up the lifeguard chair.  A perfect ending to a lovely vacation!
