I'm so glad we told them they could only put their feet in the fountain...! Their spontaneity reminds me of the Jimmy Buffett song, "Barefoot Children in the Rain," which alludes to finding pleasure in the simple things in life. The time we spent watching them splash and chase each other around the fountain and listening to their giggles and squeals of delight was some of the best of the entire trip!
Of course, a late night plus a morning full of fun and excitement equals one overtired little boy! A few minutes after this video was taken, we look in the backseat to find Gavin fast asleep!
Although the weather did not look very promising, we were determined to at least set foot on the beach. The sand on Sullivan's Island is so incredibly soft because, unlike many beaches, it has never been replenished. It immediately brought back memories of all the weekends I spent on that stretch of beach near the Sullivan's Island lighthouse with a beach towel and chair, a scandalous trash novel, and my loyal companion, Guinness, who was a puppy at the time.
Priceless!
