Mommy Day

Since both boys had off from school today, I decided to plan a special Mommy Day with them.  We started the day with a pancake breakfast at IHOP - a rare treat since Daddy is boycotting it to protest it being in our front yard!  Both boys ordered the funny face pancakes.  Ryan's was a chocolate chip pancake with a banana face and Gavin's was a regular pancake with strawberry and whipped cream facial features.  As if that weren't enough sugar, they insisted on trying the strawberry and blueberry syrup as dipping sauces!

Then we went to Explore and More, a hands-on children's museum in Gettysburg, PA.  Located in a beautiful historic home in the heart of downtown Gettysburg, this museum features seven themed rooms with activities designed to be fun and educational through exploratory play.  The 1860's room, which was Ryan's favorite, resembles a Civil War era house and general store and allows children to experience life as it was more than one hundred years ago.  There was also a construction zone, art room, nature area, dark room with a black light, and exploration room where children could stand inside a bubble, experiment with magnets, put on a puppet show, and use food coloring in water and milk to see the different color combinations they could make.

Today was a welcome departure from our usual school-day routine and a much needed fun outing for Mommy and her boys!  I wish we could have days like today more often!
