Continuing a childhood tradition of mine, every year we eat pancakes for dinner on the Tuesday before Ash Wednesday. From what I understand, Shrove Tuesday (also called Fat Tuesday, Pancake Day, and Mardi Gras) refers to the practice of eating rich, indulgent foods before the fasting season of Lent begins. It is customary to eat pancakes on Shrove Tuesday because they are made from ingredients (such as sugar, eggs, and fat) which are traditionally restricted during the 40 days of Lent.

Are those blueberries or chocolate chips in the pancakes? Must be blueberries since there is no chocolate syrup on the table. Yum!
